【关于影片】
缘分，往往源于“一见钟情”。制片人小弗兰克·曼古索(Frank Mancuso Jr。)第一次阅读《双面疑杀》的剧本时，就知道这个故事蕴含着与众不同的力量，立刻就被其中那些独特的论点所吸引，从其他众多剧本中选中它成为自己制作的下一部作品。确实，曼古索在电影工业已经度过了将近30年的职业生涯了，他曾经制作过的影片涵盖范围非常地广泛，从《十三号星期五》到罗伯特·德尼罗主演的国际间谍片《冷血悍将》……而他也从中总结出了一些职业化的“潜规则”：在选择一个值得被拍成影片的好故事时，最好相信自己的本能和直觉。曼古索说：“我总是不停地问自己，‘我想不想看到它在大银幕上是个什么样子？’当我第一次读到《双面疑杀》时，看到了一个以前不曾见过的故事，这里的每一个角色都有着与众不同的吸引力，内容也引人入胜，它真的征服了我。”
既然确定了这个故事有绝对的价值和特质被搬上大银幕，那么小弗兰克·曼古索的下一个步骤就是为它寻找一个合适的导演，这时候，有个人影突然蹦进他的脑海里--克里斯·希沃特森，一个对于电影观众来说相对陌生的名字。希沃特森的导演处女作《迷途》(The Lost)是对一个魅力超凡的隐士最直白的描述，不但在电影节的巡演上广受好评，还由此引起了一场旷日持久的争论战。曼古索表示：“我在看《迷途》的时候，对希沃特森产生了一种由衷的佩服之情，他在制作这部影片的时候，肯定只用了非常少的钱……我知道自己找到了属于我们的导演。”而曼古索第一次见到希沃特森时，两人就《双面疑杀》展开了非常激烈的讨论，曼古索对希沃特森单就这部影片所制定的导演视觉留下了非常深刻的印象，他回忆道：“我马上就感觉到，希沃特森是真的想做《双面疑杀》的导演，而且像我一样被这个故事深深地吸引着。他对这个故事似乎有某种特殊的感觉和天分，能够将它拍成一部超越类型片的优秀作品。”
如果你看过《迷途》的话，就会知道克里斯·希沃特森是那种对探索人性的黑暗面非常感兴趣的导演：“前面已经有太多的例子了，大多数惊悚类题材的影片中所介绍的角色都是非常平面化、非常苍白无力的。而《双面疑杀》却完全不一样，它是由角色来推动剧情的发展的--这是我在阅读剧本时发现的最重要的一点……当我读到一半的时候，就在奥布里突然声称自己是达科塔的那个部分，我也跟着困惑了，达科塔可能是我见过的最吸引人的一个角色了。”
【双面娇娃】
编剧杰弗里·哈蒙德(Jeffrey Hammond)亲口承认，《双面疑杀》那复杂、不安的情节的灵感来源于很多不同的原始资料，包括他孩童时期记忆中听说的一些事情、以及最近的一些亲身经历。就拿连环杀手“蓝人”使用的由玻璃制成的杀人工具为例，这个想法就是在剧本快完成时突然跳进他的脑子里的：“我还记得那是我从墨西哥往回赶，正好有一辆机场大巴刚刚起步，于是我背着行李狂追……我的包包里带了两瓶龙舌兰酒，后来我左脚绊右脚摔了个大跟头，随即听到瓶子破碎的声音--当时我就想，那可是价值80美元的龙舌兰啊，就这样没了。当我站起来的时候，吃惊地发现自己的胳膊血流如注，原来在我没有意识到的情况下，竟然被碎玻璃给割伤了。我又在丹佛机场多待了一个小时，在急诊室里对伤口进行了处理和包扎，然后就飞奔回了家，把‘玻璃武器’加到了剧本之中。”
杰弗里·哈蒙德还表示，剧本中连环杀手这个角色，应该既能提高故事的悬疑程度，还能制造恐怖效果：“我需要找出一个解决的办法，就是在整个故事中都尽可能地将这个凶手伪装起来，让观众没办法认出他的真实身份。这说起来容易做起来难，因为观众都喜欢对‘谜团’进行猜测、类推，对未知的事物充满好奇。所以我希望作为角色之一的连环杀手，是影片中最难以辨认的人物，这样才能让故事充满可怕的气氛。”
导演克里斯·希沃特森对这个剧本似乎有着与杰弗里·哈蒙德相似的感觉，他先让《双面疑杀》能够呈现的画面在自己的想象中慢慢播放……最终，他决定用两种对比鲜明的颜色--蓝色和红色来区分奥布里和达科塔所涉及的环境。小弗兰克·曼古索说：“在我和希沃特森的第一次会面中，他就说过类似的想法，只是当时考虑得还不成熟，他的意思是将和达科塔有关的一切都弄成红色，从长袜到唇膏；奥布里则是由各种不同形状的蓝色包围着。这样能够帮助观众很快就意识到，在银幕上出现的那个有着一样面容的人，到底是奥布里还是达科塔。”
克里斯·希沃特森对此的解释是：“我非常喜欢那种通俗的大众色，所以在这部影片中，我将它运用成一种主题式的工具，让它可以对我们的大脑产生强有力的影响。当然，我的目标并不是想让观众在离开电影院之后，不停地讨论这个颜色意味着什么、那个颜色意味着什么……这里只提供了一个下意识的线索，让观众能够感受得到变化的发生即可。”希沃特森特别举了一个例子，也就是影片中林赛·洛翰的角色第一次在道边被发现时的情形，随后她被送进了医院。当时她穿的是蓝色的长外衣，躺在蓝色的床单上，但是当她清醒后坚称自己是达科塔而非奥布里时，蓝色开始消失，红色悄悄地混入。当她出院的时候，穿着打扮方面已经完全换成了红色。
对于美工设计师杰瑞·弗莱明(Jerry Fleming)来说，克里斯·希沃特森的视觉想象力是一个充满丰富的细节的神秘世界：“我与这么多导演合作过，希沃特森绝对称得上是其中最有创造力的一位，他的眼睛里总是闪烁着智慧的火花，因为他的大脑永远在高速地运转着，他是真的关心角色、关心剧本、关心细节。”
而影片中有演员一人分饰两角，对美工组来说也是一个不小的挑战，克里斯·希沃特森说：“像林赛·洛翰这样经验丰富的演员，同时以两个身份出现在一个故事中，并不存在表演方面的障碍，反而是游刃有余。但是由于拍摄日程表安排得非常紧张，所以即使是那种只需换换衣服和化妆就能转换角色的简单方式，在片场仍然得像打仗一样争分夺秒……即便是这样，如果这一天的拍摄工作涉及到林赛·洛翰的两个角色的话，当天的计划多半是完不成的，需要半夜再进行补拍。所以在片场中，最忙碌的身影，永远属于我们那可亲、可信、可敬的美工们。”

新塞勒姆一个宁静的市郊小镇，因为一个名叫“蓝人”的连环杀手的嗜血正经历着动荡，所有的镇民都陷入了前所未有的恐慌之中。这名杀手有着特殊的癖好，只绑架、折磨年轻的女孩，他会囚禁她们长达几周的时间，当新鲜感消失之后，再用残忍的手段杀死她们……
“蓝人”的下一个目标，锁定在了奥布里·弗莱明身上……虽然奥布里大学还没有毕业，却已经是小镇上家喻户晓的天才钢琴演奏家了，她的另一个爱好是写作，是一个非常有潜力的未来作家。没有人说得清究竟是怎么发生的，就在奥布里和几个朋友出去游玩的那个夜晚，她再也没能回家，成为了连环杀手的新猎物。
日子在所有人的焦虑中嘀嘀嗒嗒走过，奥布里还是没有一丁点的消息，活不见人，死不见尸，FBI特别派遣了专案组寻找凶手的线索，然而他们却只能泄气地认为，奥布里生还的可能性几乎为零，因为一切都已经太迟了。
然而，命运就是一个爱捉弄人的家伙，几天后的一个夜晚，就在所有人都放弃了寻找的希望时，奥布里却突然出现在一条废弃的公路旁，深度昏迷，衣服破败不堪，身体伤痕累累……一个过路的司机发现了她，并把她送进最近的一家医院进行抢救。被女儿的失踪弄得筋疲力尽几乎发疯的苏珊和丹尼尔赶到医院守护在奥布里的病床前，但由于她仍然处在昏迷中没有恢复意识，他们只能看着女儿脸上的伤口暗暗抹泪。
终于，奥布里悠悠醒转，然而她说出来的话却震惊了在场的每一个人，她说自己是一个低档酒吧的脱衣舞女郎，名叫达科塔·摩丝，从没有听说过奥布里·弗莱明这个名字。从医生到FBI探员到奥布里的父母，都认为她是因为受到了太大的刺激，导致神经错乱，意识失常，只能通过休息和治疗慢慢恢复她的记忆了。
然而，这个奥布里伤愈搬回她父母位于郊外的家之后，却仍然坚持自己并非他们认为的那个人，尽管她身体上那些古怪的伤口，和之前死于“蓝人”之手的受害者惊人的相似……FBI探员终于在奥布里的电脑里发现了一个线索，那是一个短篇故事，讲述的就是一个女孩和她的假想朋友达科塔的历险，然而，这篇文章不但没有解开所有的谜题，却让一切更加复扑朔迷离了。
这边，达科塔也询问苏珊，自己有没有可能是奥布里的双胞胎姐妹？苏珊将自己怀孕时照的B超拿给达科塔看，里面清晰地显示她的子宫中只有一个胎儿……迷茫加恐惧，巨大的压力让达科塔神经紧张，她开始看到幻觉--有一个看不见脸的恐怖男人正在慢慢杀死他的猎物。最终，达科塔决定先把自己真实身份的谜团放到一边，因为她首要的任务是保护自己不受“蓝人”的伤害，而且她还要协助警方捕杀那个凶残的杀人犯。
